OhBaba : San Sebastián, Basque Country

This façade will look familiar to many of you—the former space of Sakona, San Sebastián’s first modern coffee roaster, now stationed in the nearby city of Irún. However, as of September 2020, this space was converted into San Sebastián’s first totally vegan café, OhBaba.

Their “plant-based” menu has a little something for anytime of day. Chia porridge in the morning, Korean dumplings for lunch, and baked goods, from scones to cinnamon rolls…and all of it is vegan.

Even the coffee is vegan—at OhBaba all the lattes and cortados are made with Oatly, no cow’s milk in sight.

The decor is light, fresh, and with Sakona’s signature glass exterior that makes for a pretty agreeable spot to have a coffee or spend the afternoon.

One of my favorite things to order is the tofu scramble or almond cheese toast. You can check out the full menu here.

There are a few more hearty options, too, like this garbanzo curry. Thanks to Nora and Koldo for opening a spot like this in the city…it was sorely needed, albeit not necessarily by me (I love my cheese, cow milk coffee and jamón!). I still love going by, though! Another point for OhBaba is their non-alcoholic drink menu. Again, I love a good wine or gin-tonic, but I am a flexitarian when it comes to both eating and drinking.
