I think it's time to document, instead of complaining to friends or feeling a deep inner discontent, the globalization of this small Basque town.  Let's start with Hogar Dulce Hogar, the absolutely fabulous cafe that has opened up in our neighborhood. I like to go just to watch the faces of donostiarras as they enter for the first time.

The first time I entered, I felt ... normal. That's because this cafe is based on the American model...comfy seating, wifi, and a little bit of everything for those coming in at breakfast, lunch, dinner or in between. Flavored coffees, varieties of buttered toast that rivals bagel shops in NYC. Let's just hope the American model of sitting for hours and using the free internet doesn't catch on.
